Development around Pascagoula train depot revs up as Amtrak nears return to the Coast

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WLOX) – Those visiting the Flagship City may notice work being done in the downtown area.

The twin duo Cam and Cain Roberds are working to open a second location of Chandeleur Island Brewing at the Pascagoula Train Depot.

“I feel like we’re at a point right now where nothing’s going to stop us here. We seem like we’ve hit the unforeseens and hopefully, we can get this thing knocked out before the Amtrak starts in the middle of summer,” Cam said.

The idea of the depot transformation came years ago and was born from Amtrak’s announcement of the passenger service’s return to the Gulf Coast.

“You always want to expand right and to be able to bring that product to other parts and not only just the product, but actually to have a brick-and-mortar type area or building that you can make that product in and let people come in that maybe not want to make that drive from Pascagoula to Gulfport,” Cain said.

Just behind that construction, The Cottages at the Depot are nearing completion.

Owner Joe Cloyd has been busy converting the former commercial spaces and shops on Del Mas Avenue into residential cottages.

“The interesting thing about both, renovating the depot and these cottages is it’s such a great first impression for travelers who are gonna be on Amtrak,” he said.

Work on the cottages began in 2024. They anticipate their first move-in within the next few weeks.

“We are honored to be a part of the enthusiasm and renovations happening here in Pascagoula,” Cloyd said.

With the return of Amtrak’s passenger service to the Coast coming in a few months, they hope the renovated spaces lead to more growth in downtown.
