Campbell skied in Europe for Team USA in Biathlon
HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech Nordic skier Wes Campbell competed for Team USA in the IBU Junior Cup & IBU Junior Open European Championships in Poland and Germany from Jan. 19-26. It was the third time he’s competed on the World Championship stage.
While competing in Jakuszyce, Poland, Campbell played ninth in the 12K mass start, 15th in the 10K sprint, and 26th in the second 10K sprint. In Germany, he placed 14th in the 10K sprint, 28th in the 15K individual and 28th in the 12K mass start.
“I am thrilled with my results in Poland and Germany,” said Campbell. “They reflect the great support I have from my coaches with Michigan Tech, U.S. Biathlon, and Craftsbury. I am hoping the trajectory will continue through the rest of the ski season and NCAA’s.”
Campbell qualified to represent U.S. Biathlon by placing second in the 7.5K sprint, and second in the 12K mass start races at the U.S. Biathlon Junior Nationals & International Team Trials held at Soldier Hollow, Utah from Dec. 26-31.
