Steve Jobs’ widow Laurene Powell visits Prayagraj, adopts Hindu name ‘Kamala’.

PRAYAGRAJ, India (Diya TV) —  Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, was on Tuesday spotted in Prayagraj for participation in the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. She was given the Hindu name “Kamala” during her visit by the Niranjani Akhara, as if granting her the right to solidify her inter-connection with Hinduism.

Powell Jobs, in her philanthropy and as Emerson Collective’s CEO, has openly professed being an admirer of Hindu thought. This journey to Prayagraj comes as a direct reflection of these interests as Powell Jobs interacts with spiritual leaders and surrounds herself with religious and cultural celebrations of the Kumbh Mela.

The Niranjani Akhara, one of the more important monastic orders that takes part in the Kumbh Mela, bestowed the name “Kamala” upon Powell Jobs. Swami Kailashananda, a senior member of the Akhara, said, “She is coming to visit her guru here. We have given her the name ‘Kamala’.”

The Maha Kumbh Mela is expected to draw millions of devotees from all over the world this month. The event, held every 12 years, is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, where ritualistic bathing in the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers takes place.

Powell Jobs’s participation has garnered significant attention, highlighting the global appeal of the Kumbh Mela and its spiritual significance. Her involvement is expected to draw international focus to the event, emphasizing the confluence of technology, philanthropy, and spirituality.

Preparations are already being made at the local authority level in Prayagraj to welcome these large influxes of pilgrims and visitors. There have been improvements on security, infrastructural development, and public facilities to ensure crowds are accommodated well.
