National retailer Kohl’s set is set to close more than two dozen stores nationwide, including one in New Jersey.

According to a statement released by Kohl’s on Jan. 9, the company plans to make real estate changes that involve shutting down 27 underperforming stores.

While the company said it believes in the health and strength of its profitable store base, these specific locations were underperforming stores. There are still 1,150 stores that are to remain open.

South Jersey’s seven Kohl’s sites — all to remain open — are located in Mantua, Turnersville, Voorhees, Cherry Hill, Millville, Marlton and Westampton.

Tom Kingsbury, Kohl’s chief executive officer, said that they take decisions to close stores seriously.

“As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams,” Kingsbury said.

Kingsbury is to step aside starting Jan. 15. Ashley Buchanan is to become the new CEO.

While there are currently no stores closing in South Jersey, the store in East Windsor at 72 Princeton Hightstown Road is to shut down. Another nearby location, this one in Pottstown, Pennsylvania at 351 W Schuylkill Road, is also to close.

The stores are set to go out of business in April of this year.
